Been a While…

Mom and Chiara at Water Tower Place on Michigan Avenue.

Mom and Chiara at Water Tower Place on Michigan Avenue.

OK, so I’ve seriously dropped the ball on keeping my blog up to date, so here’s a brief summary of life over the past few months: super busy at work, great trip to Belgium over the summer (photos to follow!), and a whirlwind trip to Chicago to visit Mom at Christmas. By far the biggest news from the Christmas break is that Mom now has an iPad (and so, email, Skype, internet access, etc.). Finally!

On the right is a shot of Mom and Chiara at the Water Tower Place after the usual bao lunch.

Laura Fo’s Exhibition

Last weekend we made it to the opening of Laura Fo‘s exhibition, La Scatola Magica, at the Galleria Baccina Techne here in Rome. It was a great evening with a great group of people—photographs below!

Chiara’s Birthday!

Yesterday was Chiara’s 34th birthday, and we celebrated with friends and family at Chiara’s parents. Photos below!

Elba at Easter

In what has become a tradition of sorts, Chiara and I spent Easter at Elba Island with her parents and her niece Sara. A nice time was had by all (despite the occasional cold shower!), and photographs from our travel around the island (in particular, to Marciana Marina, Poggio, and Marciana Alta) are below.

New Lens!

Chiara

I recently got an incredible new lens (though I’m still struggling to find the time to shoot with it), and had a chance to take a few portrait shots of Chiara. This, I think, is on of my favourite portrait shots so far. (Click the image to see a larger version.)

More news soon!

Florence (Firenze)

We spent a quick day and a half in Florence (Firenze) recently, and it was great for both shopping and photography. I’ve only had time to get through a couple of photos (gallery coming… eventually), but here’s one shot (probably my favourite) from our trip.

Eva Arrives!

Eva Looking UpWe’ve added a new member to our household: Eva, who moved in on the 15th. She’s settling in nicely, and Gatto has warmed up to her (well, a little bit).

In an effort to escape her… enthusiasm… Gatto fashioned a makeshift mosquito net to keep her away. She can be a bit of a handful!

Headshots!

With my new lighting setup I’ve been experimenting with a few portrait-type shots, and the results are below. Chiara does her best to be patient, but I end up having to take a lot of self portraits…

Recent Work

I recently got a hold of an umbrella (plus light stand and umbrella adapter), and I managed to put that equipment to good use taking some photographs of Brent Kluke’s Monk and Laswell oil paintings. I could have used another light (I made due with a mirror we had), but I don’t think Chiara wants me to buy any more camera gear for a while…

A gallery of Brent Kluke’s artwork can be found here.

Every million years…

A spider in its web.…there will be a blog update.

OK, at some point I hope to stop posting about how little I manage to post. Until then, here are a couple of spider photos IA spider in its web (black and white). took this weekend. I think I’ve changed my mind, and I prefer the black and white one…

Oh, and the thumbnails really don’t do these images justice, so click to see them at a better size.
